Plantation




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama.
 
Plantation is a city in Broward County, Florida in the United States. As of July, 2004, the population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau is 85,497. Plantation suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Wilma on October 24, 2005.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 56.8 square kilometers. 56.3 square kilometers of it is land and 0.5 square kilometers of it is water. Plantation is located in central Broward County. It is bordered by Lauderhill to the northeast, Sunrise to the north and west, Davie to the south, and Fort Lauderdale to the east.
 
In the city the population was spread out with 23.1 percent under the age of 18, 7.1 percent from 18 to 24, 32.0 percent from 25 to 44, 24.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 13.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
