Apalachicola




Florida is a state located in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama.
 
Apalachicola is a municipality in Franklin County, Florida. In 2005, the population of the city was 2,340 and an area of 6.9 square kilometers. Apalachicola received its current name in 1831, by an Act of the Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida. Apalachicola is a part of the Franklin County School District system. Residents are zoned to Chapman Elementary School and Apalachicola High School. Apalachicola Bay Charter School is also located in Apalachicola.
 
In the city the population was spread out with 21.9 percent  under the age of 18, 7.0 percent  from 18 to 24, 24.0 percent  from 25 to 44, 26.7 percent  from 45 to 64, and 20.5 percent  who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males.
